A new star has been lit on the humanitarian horizon – Nation Voice Foundation. Victoria Martino, a President and CEO, stands behind the initiative to create inclusive and peaceful solutions for overlooked and underserviced communities across the globe.

On December 10, 2024, the foundation hosted its inaugural event, Human Rights Day, in commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The event took place in Generoso Pope Foundation in Tuckahoe, New York, bringing together a diverse audience, fostering connection and inspiration.

The program began with Nicole Grieco Butterfield reciting the 30 Articles of the UDHR. As writer, educator and co-chair of the Board of Directors’ Program Committe of the Westchester Chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA’s (UNA-USA), Butterfield emphasized the timeless relevance of these principles and their importance in today’s global context.

The feature guest, Evelyne Mukasonga, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, spoke eloquently about the transformative power of forgiveness. The candid personal insight she shared resonated deeply with the audience. Readers can explore her story further through her book, “From Death to Life Through Forgiveness”, which highlights her incredible journey of resilience and reconciliation.

Victoria Martino, Founder-CEO, shared the story of her own recent trip to Rwanda, a country once scarred by genocide but now flourishing as one of the safest and most inspiring places in Africa. Undeterred by naysayers, Martino followed her heart to Rwanda, where she felt instantly welcomed and uplifted by the generosity of its people. The foundation delivered school supplies to more than 300 children in Musanze, marking the beginning of what everyone hopes will be an enduring impact. Martino’s personal account illustrated how preconceived notions of division create unnecessary barriers between people and nations. In conclusion, Martino reiterated the foundation’s commitment to providing a safe space for collaboration, free from divisive rhetoric, conflict, or negativity. The focus is on peaceful and practical solutions to improve the lives of those in underserviced communities through education, food security and economic empowerment.

The event attendees were visibly moved by the recitation of the UDHR and the heartfelt messages of the speakers. Many expressed appreciation for the foundation’s vision and voiced eagerness to learn more about any upcoming projects and opportunities to collaborate. The event not only honored the principles of human rights but also inspired attendees to take action in their own spheres to promote peace and unity. It was a profound reminder of the power of storytelling and community in creating a better world
