Definition: The catastrophic celestial event when the Moon froze in the heavens and refused to move. It marked the first great unraveling of the Threads and the birth of Hollowborn in recorded history.
Event Description
The Moon, once the great eye of rhythm and tide, ceased its motion. It hung above the world unblinking, unyielding, and eternal. This moment became known as the First Lunar Standstill.
Where once the Moon guided the balance of the Veil, its stillness ripped harmony apart:
- Tides broke and churned endlessly.
- The Sun’s fire seared the world into frost and ash.
- Skies dimmed, shedding stars like tears.
- The earth split, swallowing forests whole.
This Standstill was not a pause in time. It was a fracture of memory and thread, when the Veil itself faltered.
- The event shattered the old rhythm of Veil-bound magic, birthing the Fractis.
- Hollowborn began to manifest in numbers, as grief and betrayal condensed into forms the world could no longer forget.
- The Twelve Seers were called into council at the Threadspire, where the Four Arkh-Seers (Sun, Moon, Sky, and Ground) attempted to weave stability back into the Veil.
- Their intervention saved the world from collapse, but the Veil has never fully healed.
- Every Lunar Standstill since echoes this first rupture. Though lesser, each brings instability to Lucent casters and accelerates Withering.
- Ritual calendars mark Mourndusk, the month of the Standstill, as the most dangerous for Veil travel.
- Many Seers whisper that the Moon remains fractured, merely pretending to move — waiting for the second great stillness.
🌙 A frozen moon encircled by broken threads.
“The Moon did not stop for us. It stopped because it remembered something we could not bear to see. And in that silence, the world began to break.”
